Winter Gem Boxwood is one of the hybrids developed in Canada at the famous Sheridan Nursery. These hybrids can withstand very cold temperatures and maintain their good color. Winter Gem has a small leaf and a very full habit making it ideal for many applications. A slow growing dwarf plant with dark green foliage throughout the year, it forms a tight ball measuring about 2’x2’ and makes an excellent short formal hedge. It requires very little shearing to maintain its shape.
Winter Gem is best grown in a moist, well-drained soil in dappled sun to part shade. Avoid cultivating around plants because they have shallow roots. Roots appreciate a good mulch (2-3”). Thin plants and remove damaged branches annually to improve air circulation.
