The large leaved Schefflera (Brassaia actinophylla) is a popular, easy houseplant that can grow to 10’or so in a container. Sometimes called Umbrella Tree, the Schefflera has rosettes of soft-leathery, lacquered green leaves that can grow to 12” in length. The “Dwarf” Schefflera can get just as large (although not get as large as the Brassaia in nature) as the Schefflera, but has smaller rosettes and bushier habit. The dwarf Schefflera (Schefflera arboricola) is often referred to simply as Arboricola. Both are very attractive potted plants that prefer very bright indirect light to some direct sun. Allow the soil to dry moderately and provide good drainage. The Arboricola, which has pretty variegated cultivars as well, grows the fastest and should be pruned whenever it begins to lose its rounded shape.
